The Emilys Association was founded in memory of Emilie Jaumain-Houel, a laboratory technician who died at the age of 33 after contracting Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease following occupational exposure during a fixed-term contract at the INRAe MAP2 laboratory.
This tragedy, which could have been avoided if basic training and safety rules had been followed, highlights serious shortcomings in the management of occupational health and safety in research laboratories.
Our mission: To inform and raise awareness among all laboratory staff about the risks associated with biological and chemical substances and other occupational hazards, while implementing concrete measures to prevent accidents, improve day-to-day safety and protect the health of laboratory workers.

Training and prevention
Raise awareness among laboratory staff of the risks associated with infectious prions and other biological agents.
Legal monitoring
Monitor and support legislative and regulatory developments concerning laboratory safety.
Support for victims
Supporting individuals exposed to or who have suffered an accident at work in the scientific environment involving infectious biological agents
Public and political advocacy
Lobby public authorities and institutions to improve safety and training standards.
